BLUES ON BEALE, the music doc shot in clubs and behind the scenes on Beale Street at the 36th annual International Blues Challenge (IBC) is now in VOD distribution by Echelon Studios, Los Angeles.


“The Blues Foundation’s IBC hosted 219 Blues acts from around the globe, competing in Beale Street’s world famous venues over a 5-day period,” said Cecily Truett Lancit, Co-producer/writer of the film.  “Blues musicians from around the world competed on Memphis stages where music greats like BB King and Elvis Presley cut their teeth and became stars -- the HardRock Café, BB King’s, Alfred’s, King’s Palace, Blues City Café, Club 152, Jerry Lee Lewis Café and Honky Tonk, and Rum Boogie.”


BLUES ON BEALE is an inside look at the drama and fabulous music that draw the most talented emerging blues artists from around the globe to jam, network, and compete for recognition. Watching BLUES ON BEALE is the next best thing to having a front row seat for International Blues Challenge week. 


Produced, written and directed by Emmy and Peabody award winning team Cecily Truett Lancit and Larry Lancit, of Lancit Digital Media, the 80-minute BLUES ON BEALE immerses viewers in one of the last musical competitions of its kind before the Covid epidemic shut down the world. Co-Executive Producers are Lynne Brenner Ganek, Jeffrey Ganek, and Stephen Zink.


BLUES ON BEALE features an array of Blues Superstars including Grammy winner and Blues Hall of Famer, Bobby Rush; Muddy Waters’ daughter, Mercy Morganfield; Blues Music Award winner Shemekia Copeland; BB King Entertainer of the Year, Janiva Magnus; Maples Blues Award Female Vocalist of the year, Shakura S’Aida; and a host of Blues GRAMMY Nominees, Blues Music Award winners and Blues Hall of Famers such as Castro Coleman (Mr. Sipp); Annika Chambers, Paul Deslauriers, and Grammy winner and Blues documentarian, William Ferris, Ph.D.; former president & CEO of The Blues Foundation, Barbara Newman; and Blues Foundation IBC production consultant, Joe Whitmer; Alligator Records founder & president Bruce Iglauer, and historian and author, Richard Folsom.
 

The doc also profiles a series of challengers from around the world, captures their personal stories, and explores the passion, the heart, and the hopes of the competitors as they make their way through the competition.

A CARNEGIE MELLON UNIVERSITY HEINZ COLLEGE/COLLEGE OF FINE ARTS CAPSTONE PROJECT IN THE MASTER OF ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY MANAGEMENT PROGRAM based in Los Angeles, CA. 

Producers will collaborate with program leaders and students to develop research and analytic studies to inform development strategies.  These may include audience data, platform choices and optimization, market and industry demand, format options and distribution approaches.  Students will present their findings to selected Entertainment Industry leaders from the world’s leading media companies.  This extremely valuable strategic assistance will assist in placing WAY OF THE BLUES as a highly competitive and noteworthy project with access to entertainment industry thought leaders and decision makers.

THE BLUES FOUNDATION

 

A significant relationship agreement with The Blues Foundation will provide support and guidance on overall content approach, including further development of the Board of Advisors to include preeminent scholars, institutional leaders, producers and writers on The Blues.  WAY OF THE BLUES will have a fulsome collaboration with The Blues Foundation to assist with recommendations for both recognized and emerging artists, audience testing and feedback, and overall guidance and wisdom in order to earn their prestigious imprimatur.
